Home Care Regimen After Laser Hair Removal

Laser hair removal is a popular and seemingly simple procedure in which a laser beam is used to penetrate the hair and destroy its roots. The beam heats the pigment melanin, transferring heat directly to the root, which allows for quick and clean hair removal.

Laser hair removal produces long-term results. Clients typically require multiple sessions to remove the hair, as well as touch-up treatments every six months. This can be done with either a razor or wax. To get the most out of laser hair removal, it might be helpful to remember these six things after the session.

Laser Hair Removal Aftercare in Six Easy Steps

1. Cleanse the skin with a gentle cleanser

It is recommended that the skin be cleansed with a gentle cleanser on a regular basis. It is also advisable to wash the epilated area with a mild cleanser that does not contain strong fragrances, dyes, or essential oils. You might consider using a foam for sensitive skin or a gel for intimate hygiene. We kindly ask that you refrain from steaming your skin or taking a hot bath or shower. We also suggest avoiding baths and saunas for seven days.

2. Pause deodorant

If you have undergone laser treatment on your underarms, it may be advisable to take a break from using deodorant for at least 24 hours after the procedure. If you use Dry-Dry, we suggest you cancel it a week before the procedure.

3. Don't overdo it with hydration

It might be helpful to remember that overdoing it with hydration isn't necessarily a good idea. It would be advisable to choose light textures. We suggest that you use a moisturizing gel or spray within 24–48 hours after administration since your pores and follicles open.

4. Of course, do not sunbathe

It is also important to remember that sunbathing should be avoided. Laser hair removal creates a micro-damage in each follicle, and during the procedure, heat is still distributed to adjacent tissue and vascular structures. Thus it is important to note that the skin is particularly vulnerable to ultraviolet radiation following this procedure, which could potentially lead to pigmentation issues.

5. Exfoliate. But not at once!

It is generally recommended that two days after the procedure, you can begin to gently exfoliate the area that was epilated, if there is no inflammation. Firstly, this may help to prevent ingrown hairs, and secondly, it may also help to speed up their “loss” from the skin.

6. Follow recommendations

It is important to remember to apply the products prescribed to you after the procedure. If you have any questions or concerns about your skin, please contact the clinic immediately to schedule an appointment with a specialist.

Potential Side Effects And Risks Associated With Laser Hair Removal

If you notice any redness, swelling, or slight discoloration of the skin on the treated area following the session, please don't worry. These are temporary effects that usually last a few hours to several days. It is important to be aware that burns should be a cause for concern. If the epilation is performed correctly and with proper equipment, it should not occur. It is therefore important to choose an experienced and qualified specialist in order to minimise the risks involved.
